A new version of the Ultrasn0w unlock for iPhone owners running iOS 4.3.1 has been released on Cydia, while a new version of the redsn0w jailbreak utility is also out in the wild fixing remaining issues with optional boot animations.

Ultrasn0w 1.2.1, available solely through Cydia for jailbroken users, is an unlock utility that offers iPhone owners the ability to switch carriers.

Apple ties iPhone purchases to select carriers, forcing customers to choose from a small bunch, whereas many want the freedom of being able to switch from one carrier to another whenever they please.

However, as mentioned above, to get there users must first jailbreak their handsets.

Tools like redns0w 0.9.6rc12 and PwnageTool 4.3 are at their disposal, though readers should note that Softpedia does not encourage such practices.

This past weekend, Musclenerd of the iPhone Dev Team confirmed via Twitter that a new version of Ultrasn0w was being released.

Those who’ve updated to iOS 4.3.1 using a custom IPSW spit out by PwnageTool can now access Cydia, search for redsn0w and unlock their phone.

While PwnageTool is only available for Mac users, redsn0w can be employed by both Mac and Windows PC owners to achieve a jailbreak of the iOS 4.3.1 firmware.

A guide to jailbreaking iOS 4.3.1 using PwnageTool is available here.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
