Tyan, a company well renowned for its high-quality and high-performance server and workstation motherboards, has announced the introduction of a new G34 quad-socket motherboard, which is compatible with AMD's latest 6100-series Opteron processors, as well as a new barebone server system.

Dubbed the S8812WGM3NR, the motherboard is based on the AMD SR5690 chipset and supports up to four 12-core Opteron 6100 series processors.

These are linked together via four HyperTransport links capable of transferring up to 6.4 GT/s.

However, what's special about Tyan's latest motherboard is that it provides each CPU with 8 DIMM slots, enabling users to install as much as 512GB of DDR3 memory inside the system.

In addition, the board also features for PCI Express Gen 2 slots, three x8 and one x4, as well as three Gigabit Ethernet ports (thanks to Intel's 82574L and 82576EB NICs).

Storage is handled by a hardware LSI SAS2008 controller which provides a total of eight 6Gbit SATA ports and the motherboard can be monitored thanks to an AST2050 BMC chip that provides IMPI 2.0 support.

Together with the mainboard, Tyan also launched the B8812F48W8HR barebone which comes in the 4U form factor, and includes dual redundant 770W power supplies as well as the new S8812WGM3NR motherboard.

The system supports eight hot-swappable 3.5-inch hard disks, along with three 5.25-inch drive bays, and is cooled by six redundant 120mm fans that are automatically controlled by thermal sensors to save power and reduce noise.

“Our newest 4-way server supports up to 48 processing cores in a single system, providing the most powerful High-Performance Computing (HPC) platform Tyan has offered to date. We designed this system specifically to provide best-of-class performance for processor-intensive HPC applications,” stated Tyan's Director of Product Marketing, Kevin Hart.

Both the barebone and the motherboard are available right now through Tyan distributors worldwide for a yet undisclosed price.
