Tyan has just announced two new dual socket motherboards that support AMD Opteron 4100 series processors, both of them being designed around the SR5690 and the SP5100 chipsets, and featuring as much as four PCI Express x16 slots.

Taking a good look at the two motherboard, one would see these are pretty much identical except for the LSI 2008 SAS controller that is added to the S8225WAGM4NRF in order to provide users with a pair of 6Gbps mini-SAS connectors next to the already available six SATA 3GBps ports.

However, the rest of the hardware specifications are exactly the same, both board featuring dual C32 sockets, a total of eight DIMM slots (four for each CPU, that allow for a maximum of 128GB of RDIMM to be installed), four PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots, one PCIe x8 slot, one PCIe x4 slot as well as a regular PCI slot.

In addition, both motherboards are compatible with 4-way GPGPU solutions and pack an integrated graphics card, built by Aspeed, that drives a D-Sub 15-pin connector capable of pushing 1600x1200 pixels at 60Hz.

The same Aspeed AST2050 chip is also responsible for providing various advanced server management features.

On the networking side, Tyan decided to go with one Intel 82576EB and two Intel 82574L controllers that drive four Gigabit Ethernet ports.

All these features are bundled inside the EATX form factor, Tyan recommending the motherboards to be used inside 2U system cases.

“The S8225 workstation motherboard enables price sensitive customers to experience GPU computing performance,” stated Tyan Director of Product Marketing, Kevin Hart.

“The AMD Opteron 4100 series processors provide improved power efficiency at a lower cost,” concluded the company's rep.

Unfortunately, no prices were provided together with the press release but both models are already available for purchase through Tyan distributors worldwide.
