Toshiba Germany denies the December launch of the AT200

At the end of last week, a German retailer listed Toshiba’s ultra-thin AT200 Excite on its website leading us to believe that the Android tablet will be shipped at the beginning of December, but according to Toshiba this information is wrong as the AT200 won’t arrive in stores until January of 2012.

Shortly after the tablet was listed by the retailer, Tabtech has contacted Toshiba Germany via Facebook to inquire about the December 7 shipping date provided in the listing.

The answer proved to be disappointing for all those interested in buying the AT200 this Holiday season as it revealed that the Android running device won’t in fact be available for Christmas, as it’s supposed to arrive in stores in January of 2012.

The AT200 tablet will be available in two versions, one including 16GB of storage space and the other 32GB.

No matter the model chosen, at the heart of the 10.1-incher (1280x800) stands the same TI OMAP 4430 Cortex A9 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and Google’s 3.2 version of the Android OS, also known as Honeycomb.

The rest of the Toshiba AT200 specifications list includes a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 2MP front-facing snapper, Micro HDMI, Micro USB, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, while the built-in battery can provide power for an estimated 8 hours.

All these are packed inside a thin and light chassis measuring just 7.7mm depth, which actually makes it 1.1mm thinner than Apple's iPad 2, and weighting in 558 grams.

Right now, the 32GB version of the Toshiba AT-200 is still available for pre-order from Conrad (the retailer still hasn’t changed the availability date) for 599€ (roughly $790 US).

The 16GB model of the tablet was also spotted in an online store where is up for pre-order at 479€, which roughly translates into $637 US.
