Director Joseph Kosinski says follow-up to “Tron: Legacy” may already be in the works

Though it's being marketed as a stand-alone movie, “Tron: Legacy” is actually the sequel to the 1982 “Tron,” a little detail that might be lost on non-fans. A third film may already be in the works, even though “Legacy” is still to arrive in theaters.

Mark Malkin of E! Online was at the first-ever screening of “Tron: Legacy” the other night in Los Angeles, and he's learned straight from the horse's mouth that a sequel could already be on the table.

Of course, as any moviegoer must know, it's not uncommon for major studios (especially one as huge as Disney) to come up with sequels for films that prove successful with the public.

However, we're talking here of a movie that is yet to see the light of day – “Tron” is scheduled for nationwide release on December 17 –, so that can't but mean one thing: Disney is very confident that it will be a massive hit.

“I think we've set up a world that has a lot of possibility and potential,” director Joseph Kosinski says for E! Online about the possibility of another “Tron” movie soon.

“We don't save anything in the movie, and I think I put in everything that I possibly could, but I feel like the ending is open enough that you could wonder, What's next?” Kosinki explains.

As for whether he would return to helm another “Tron” film, while it's too soon to guess on that because it's too soon, Kosinki would love if he'd be involved in some capacity – granted another film does get greenlit.

“That's hard to say two days after I finished this. I just finished it Wednesday morning. It's a crazy time, but I think with a little time away I would absolutely love to come back,” Kosinki, who makes his film feature directorial debut with “Tron: Legacy,” says.
