Coming on March 24

Bethesda was really aggressive in talking about the downloadable content for its Fallout 3 post apocalyptic role playing game. It said, from the get go, that it planned to release three pieces of DLC, one for each month beginning with February. Until now, it has managed to deliver Operation: Anchorage in February, a piece of content that was OK, without offering anything spectacular to players, besides maybe the rewards received at the end of the virtual reality quest.

On March 24, after a slight delay, the second piece of DLC, called The Pitt, is set to arrive. And the people at Planet Fallout managed to talk with Jeff Gardiner, who is a senior producer at Bethesda Game Studios and the lead producer of all the DLC. He says that Pittsburgh, the setting of the new content, is a very dark and twisted place even if it was not targeted directly by the nuclear exchange that ravaged the United States. Still, because of the radiation levels and the decay of the city, it is now inhabited by raiders, slavers and Trogs, humans that run around in packs and are pretty much feral.

We've already told you about the Auto Axe, the cool looking new weapon that players will be able to use. It also seems that players will have a chance to get new armor, both raider designs and a fresh power armor set.

But the big news is that The Pitt will not be as combat focused as Operation: Anchorage. The player is drawn to the area because of an escaped slave who tells him/her about a cure for mutation. Once in the Pitt, the player character needs to make tough choices regarding whom he/she will help and how.

Gardiner also says that The Pitt will feature a section of pit fighting, where the player will have to face off against raider opponents, as toxic waste is being dropped around them. Sounds interesting and we'll get to see how it plays out on March 24.
