The final touches to the cast of the upcoming “Spider-Man” reboot have been put, with Rhys Ifans announced as the villain and now, the identity of the baddie revealed: The Lizard.

Since it was announced that Andrew Garfield would take on the role of Peter Parker from Tobey Maguire, speculation about the villain of the film and, most importantly, how would play him has intensified.

The other day, it was confirmed that Rhys Ifans would be the baddie, but the movie studio failed to see who that would be.

Luckily, there are always inside sources willing to talk to the media on things that producers want to keep under wraps – even better, TheWrap knows some of them.

“Rhys Ifans will play Dr. Curt Connors, better known as The Lizard, in Marc Webb’s ‘Spider-Man,’ TheWrap has learned,” the movie-oriented e-zine says.

As for reports that Venom may also be making a comeback to the franchise, it turns out that they were unfounded rumors.

“There had been rumors across the blogosphere that Sony was thinking of bringing back Venom for the franchise reboot, but that character will not be featured in the movie, two individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap,” says the same publication.

Scheduled for a 3D release in July 2012, the new “Spider-Man” also features Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Spidey’s initial love interest in the comics.

Mary Jane will also be featured but, as of now, it seems no actress has been official attached, word on the web says. Plus, the role will be very small as compared to previous “Spider-Man” films.

Speaking of the comics and Sam Raimi’s films, in a recent interview, Andrew Garfield revealed playing Spidey had always been a dream of his, just like must be the case with millions of other boys out there.

“Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice, God, it’s just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure,” he said when asked about how he felt when he got the call from the studio to audition for the part.

Also then, he said he wanted to start working out for the part as soon as possible, adding that his main focus was on flexibility and strength, and not building muscle mass.
