After much contradictory statements and (presumably) lots of debate, the fourth “Spider-Man” film will finally happen, even if it marks a departure from the three previous flicks. Andrew Garfield takes on the role of Peter Parker / Spider-Man and is happy to finally see his dream come true.

This is literally the first interview the British actor has given ever since his involvement in the franchise was confirmed in July this year.

Though he’s in no position to offer more details about the film (first of all because he probably doesn’t know them either), Garfield tells The Hollywood Reporter he’s thrilled to be a part of the reboot.

Any other actor in his place would feel so, he explains: he grew up with the Spider-Man story and can even identify with Peter Parker, which literally makes the chance offered to him a dream come true.

“I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, ‘Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you’ve always wanted to be all your life, and we’re going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you’re going to feel like you’re swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?’” Andrew says.

Asked this question, he consulted with his 7-year-old self and came up to the conclusion they would both love to bring life into the Peter Parker / Spider-Man character, the star says.

“Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice, God, it’s just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure,” Garfield further says.

Playing Peter Parker and being allowed to be a part of such a huge franchise as “Spider-Man” is is a great honor and Garfield plans not to disappoint any of its loving fans.

Speaking of how huge the franchise is, Andrew also says that he’s trying not to let himself be sucked in the media frenzy around it, so that he can concentrate on his job only and do it to perfection.

This will probably also mean working out a lot to get into top shape – after all, it’s not like he can swing through blocks of buildings with the lean, almost scrawny body he has now, he seems to be saying.

“I’m sure there will be a bunch of that, yeah. Flexibility is my main focus right now. Making sure that I can be as flexible as possible. It’s all kind of starting up so I haven’t really got much to say about it,” Andrew says.

Right now, though, “Spider-Man” is still in its early stages of development. Until Andrew Garfield gets to work on it, fans can catch him in the drama “Never Let Me Go,” based on the novel of the same name by Kazuo Ishiguro.
