Lindsay Lohan has set eyes on Mary Jane in “Spider-Man” reboot for acting comeback, claims report

In the October 2010 issue of Vanity Fair, in what is her first interview since getting out of prison and rehab, Lindsay Lohan says she wants her acting career back – and she knows just the thing to help her do that, the Mary Jane role in the new “Spider-Man” film.

As we also informed you a while back, “Spider-Man” is getting the reboot treatment, with a fourth film aiming to bring the character fans love so much back on the silver screen in another form.

All members of the old cast have dropped out of the new project and, in part, already replaced by new stars. Mary Jane’s part is still open, word in the blogosphere has it.

Comic Book Movie has learned that Lohan is interested in it and has already taken the necessary steps to score an audition with Sony for it, AceShowbiz informs.

Mary Jane Watson is Peter Parker’s love interest and was played in the first three blockbuster films (which failed to impress all fans as they set to do) by Kirsten Dunst.

Lohan is now looking to get her acting career back on track, having had, in recent years, little luck in making audiences and critics love and appreciate her for her skills in front of the camera.

“The role that is eyed by Lohan is apparently red-haired Mary Jane Watson,” AceShowbiz writes. Lohan believes she would be perfect for it and her friends fully agree with her.

“As for how the 24-year-old beauty is interested in the part, there is speculation that Lohan’s friends who are also ‘Spider-Man’ fans have suggested her to go after the role that she is trying to get an audition for Sony,” writes the e-zine.

However, even if this rumor is true and Lohan gets an audition with the movie studio for the part, it may still not happen because producers want to take the new Spider-Man story down a different path from the three previous films.

In other words, Mary Jane may even not be included, also in a bid to make the reboot a different kettle of fish than the three flicks.

“Words are, the character of Peter Parker's love interest who was portrayed by Kirsten Dunst in ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy will not return to the remake version. Instead, she is allegedly going to be replaced by another character Gwen Stacy,” AceShowbiz informs.

In July this year, British actor Andrew Garfield was cast for the role of Peter Parker in the new “Spider-Man” film. Production on it starts in December, with a release date set for July 2012.
