14 DAY TRIAL // Everybody agrees that 2007 was a great year when it comes to video games. 2008 promises to be even better, but the first days of January find us with very few new releases and a great desire to play some marvelous games. If you're having trouble choosing the games to play during the first days of the new year, we are here to solve your problem - the first six days of 2008 in game days.
Even though we tried hard to make this list to suit your day-by-day plans and offer a varied amount of games, it really is OK if, in between the games we recommend for the first days of 2008, you go play some other titles you fancy. Just have ours in mind. We promise they're great fun!
1st of January 2008 - Wii Tennis You're tired after the last night's party and, probably, it's already 4 PM when you wake up. You ate a little too much? Maybe you drank an extra glass of wine? Yeah, of course you did. And you had a great party to welcome the new year. But now you're in your bed, lazy and all worn out. There's just one thing for you to do - start fresh and get ready to gain your strength back. Grab the Wiimote and start playing a Wii Sports game. And please put that beer down! Now, back to our business, we recommend tennis, since nothing makes your body feel better than some heavy running down the court, some powerful smashes and a few quick glances towards the hottest girls watching you. So turn yourself into the next Bjorn Berg (and try to avoid that that sex scandal, of course) or, if you want, the next Maria Sharapova and get your vitality back for the new year!
2nd of January - Crysis It's Wednesday and after that sport session you had yesterday, you are already feeling better and ready for some hardcore action. You had your share of sports but you still remember the party you had two days ago and you're starting to get a little nostalgic. But 2008 is nothing about nostalgia, so stay strong, act tough and grab your Rambo suit, turn the lights off, crank up the volume and get ready for some action with the best FPS of the year - Crysis. Trust me, you've never ever felt so good being a superhero in a world infested with aliens. I mean aliens, dude! What are you waiting for?
3rd of January - Assassin's Creed Now you realize that time indeed flies. It seems like five minutes ago it was 2007 and now you are already three days older. Need more proofs? Then, to get really convinced that time does fly, what do you say about a trip back in time, let's say sometime around 1191 AD. Yes, you've guessed it right - we're talking about Assassin's Creed! Now it's the time to sharpen your sword, steady your horse and get ready for your life's adventure together with Altair. You feel you have everything it takes to assassinate (again) the 9 important leaders? Then get on the rooftops, master your sword, explore the three cities and prove it. Or, at least, enjoy the stunning graphics and sit down on a bench to watch the sunset. Or the sunrise, whatever you want!
4th of January - Sinking Island Now it's the time when you realize that everything is not just about pure strength. You did your exercises, blasted aliens like a mad man and reached incredible heights climbing walls and stuff. But the gaming world is not just about running and jumping and breaking tons of enemy necks. You sometimes need a challenge, you have to use your brain a little. And what other way than being a detective could be better to do it? None. And when one of the best men featured in adventure games is involved, you are on a winning streak. Yes, I'm talking about Benoit Sokal and his latest masterpiece - Sinking Island. So accept the role of inspector Jack Norm and get ready to solve the million dollar puzzle - who killed Walter Jones? You think you can do it time? Be warned - there's a sinking island you're standing on and if you're really good, you should finish your investigations in three days!
5th of January - NFS ProStreet It's Saturday now and you still feel wet after your latest trip inside Benoit Sokal's universe. You are really tired, too, since most probably you didn't feel the time passing (again) and you solved the mystery late at night. Don't worry, we won't suggest you should play some sport games again. Now it's time to put your helmet on, insert your favorite music CD in your car's CD player and go for the ride of your life. Fast cars, open spaces, realism... is there anything else you would like? (No, you just can't pick up that hot hitchhiker for the road!). Yes, I'm talking about Need For Speed ProStreet now - it's the game that will fulfill your adrenaline rush and make you proud of how good of a driver you are. Now get out there and burn some rubber to impress the beautiful ladies!
6th of January - Popomundo Now it's Sunday and 2008's first week is ready to say "good-bye". It was the week that marked a new beginning, a new year and a whole bunch of new expectations. It would be even better now to meet new friends, to experience more, to try new and better things. The game to end your week with and (probably) to start a new era in your life should be "God Smackingly Glorious" (you'll understand soon enough why I said this - after you start playing it). It should be unique. It should be something you always wanted. And it won't be your regular next-gen game, but something different: a great browser based one! Yup, I'm not joking! So get ready to start your new life in Popomundo!
A game so complex and beautiful like this needs at least 10 pages to describe it, but I won't do that. I will let you decide, while playing, if you would like to become a Popomundo rock star, an R&B diva or the best pop act there is. You don't like music? Maybe you would like to become a fearless criminal, the entire world is afraid of? Maybe the richest company owner in the world? Or you just want to meet tons of new people from all over the world? You can do all of these (and many, many more) in the Popomundo universe. I will only say two more things: first, I will quote (from my memory) a character from the game: "1000 days in the game and I still don't know all about it". Yup, it's that complex. And second, just to let you know: you'll get addicted. So try to get ready to start 2009 still playing this one.
