Online services are playing a bigger and bigger role in consoles these days, as a lot of people buy the devices depending on what kind of features they can offer once they are connected to the Internet.

Sony has seen this trend, and has launched its PlayStation Home service, which aims at providing a unique and interactive social network for owners of its PlayStation 3 console. Even though it is still in open beta, being launched at the middle of last December, the service is growing by leaps and bounds, seeing an unprecedented growth, at least according to Sony.

Now, Electronic Arts has just revealed that its previously announced EA Sports Complex is now open to all Home users. The new space will allow them to interact with each other and will be the venue of various mini-games, including poker, Texas Hold'Em style, and kart racing. Also, new trailers and videos about upcoming titles from EA's Sports label will be available for viewing when the players take a time out from the variety of casual multiplayer games that they can experience.

“We are extremely proud of the compelling and immersive online offerings that are available at launch for EA Sports Complex,” Rob Burnett, senior producer, said. “EA Sports Complex is a dynamic space and was specifically designed to appeal to not only the hardcore sports fan but casual gamers alike.”

Besides the already present poker tournaments and the EA Racing mini-game, other titles are scheduled to appear in the new space, including EA Sports Golf, where players can test their skills. Leaderboards, reward systems and poker bracelets are already planned to arrive in this new space, but the team will take its time and strive to deliver the best experience to Home users.
