The developers of the upcoming The Darkness II have said that they are aiming to create a game where the player is able to directly control some of the more action packed sequences, especially those who involve the demons arms of the demon itself.

Seth Olshfski, who is a producer working on The Darkness II, has told Destructoid that the team working on the game was keen on emphasizing the action side and the gory elements in order to differentiate the game from the experience that was created by Starbreeze.

He stated, “If you look at the first game, you gain more and more and more powers, and then when you get to the end of the game there’s this cinematic sequence where your demon arms start slashing people to bits and picking people up and throwing them around – absolutely wreaking havoc.”

He went even further, saying “That was sort of the inspiration for the second game, we were like ‘hey, I wanna be able to do that with my own controls. I wanna be able to make the demon arms do those things.' And Jackie is so powerful. He’s earned that action. It makes a lot of sense for it to be that active because he’s learned how to use his powers.”

The game will use a new technique used “quad wielding” that will allow Jackie Estacado to use both his weapons and his supernatural powers at the same time.

The Darkness II will have a look that is closer to the cell-shaded graphics used in the comic on which the game is based on.

The story will take place two years after the events of the first game and will see the main character fighting with an order that has been sworn to rid the world of the Darkness.

At the moment The Darkness II is prepared for a February 2012 release on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC.
