2K Games, together with developer Digital Extremes, have just revealed some fresh news about The Darkness 2, including its release date as well as a new trailer that highlights just how main protagonist Jackie Estacado, will return.

The Darkness 2 was officially announced at the beginning of the year and, besides a few screenshots and details about the story, not a lot was known.

Now, Digital Extremes, its developer, alongside 2K Games, the title's publisher, have revealed a new trailer for it, showcasing the main motivation of protagonist Jackie Estacado, who, once again, decides to use his dark powers.

In the video below, you'll see that even if Jackie, now the Don of the Franchetti crime family, wanted to forget about The Darkness, an evil supernatural power that allowed him to exact revenge in the first game, it will return in a big way in the upcoming sequel.

"The Darkness II is a well of dark and imaginative violence, and it’s a stylized and beautiful nightmare. The Darkness II continues the 2K Games tradition of delivering quality, innovative games that are filled to the brim with atmosphere and deep storytelling," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.

"The game takes a unique stance on fighting in the dark versus light. Combined with the arsenal of weapons at Jackie’s disposal and the gruesome attacks of the supernatural Demon Arms and Darkness powers, we’re proud to announce another title that delivers on our core values of creating games for gamers."

The game has also received a new release date, with 2K launching the title on October 4, in North America, and October 7, in the rest of the world, including Europe or the UK.

The Darkness 2 will be released for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms at that time, so it's going to be interesting to see just how it will fair against many of the big sequels that will appear at the end of the year.
