For all those beer lovers out there comes a little deep fried treat that will show the world that, if one person is willing to try it, beer can also qualify as food.

About three years ago, Mark Zable set out to prove that if there’s one thing more fun than having a beer with a friend or at home on the couch, that has got to be eating beer.

It sounds ridiculous – and very dangerous to make happen as well – but Zable wanted to put naysayers in their place so, after a long time researching and experimenting, he can now present the Deep Fried Beer.

Deep Fried Beer are actually little “cakes” made of dough resembling ravioli, which contain Guinness beer. Once the beverage goes in, they’re dropped in frying oil and can be served either cold or steaming hot.

“As a result of three years of research and development, we are now excited to present Fried Beer to the world! In such a revolutionary way, we are able to put beer inside dough that is shaped like a ravioli and deep fry it,” Zable writes on the product’s official page.

The process is not unique because it happens in such a way as to prevent beer from interacting with the boiling oil, which is why Zable has a patent for the manufacturing process.

“Everyone will have a chance to try Fried Beer at the 2010 State Fair of Texas which opens September 26, 2010. We will be showcasing it at our two concession stands,” Zable says of the product’s debut.

The combination of salty dough (resembling a pretzel in taste) and beer can’t but please beer lovers, he adds. The disadvantage is that it’s hard to “eat” the beer contents inside it.

“When you take a bite, beer pours out of the inside pocket of dough. We even had to get the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to rule on our new product,” Zable says.

Jacksonville got to speak with Zable and learned that, while he’s using Guinness now, he might be considering switching over to Shiner Bock, which Texas audiences will probably love more.

It’s a little messy – the beer pours out on the first bite – but you can always sop it up with the dough,” the same e-zine says of the Deep Fried Beer experience.

And there’s more: for those for whom beer is not really their thing, the same maker will also showcase on the same occasion the Deep Fried Frozen Margarita and the Fried Lemonade.
