Motivated by the surprising success of KFC’s breadless chicken burger the Double Down and the increasing popularity of McDonald’s off-the-menu McGangBang, Carl’s Jr. is also looking to get a share of the pie that is the jumbo-size sandwiches. Right now, it is testing a cheeseburger called the Footlong Cheeseburger in several locations across the US, with hopes to bring it in the national network as soon as possible, Examiner informs.

Of course, the Footlong sandwich from Carl Jr. is just as healthy as the KFC and McDonald’s offering, the report says. Should it fair well in testing, Americans all across the country will be treated to a calorie-laden, extremely unhealthy and not even that tasty sandwich that comes in a jumbo size but is priced just a little over the regular, standard version, early reviews of the new product say. Nutritionists and health experts too will have a field day with this one, should it ever go national.

“Home of such calorie-laden creations as the Guacamole Bacon Six Dollar Burger (1,040 calories, 70 grams of fat, and 2,240 milligrams of sodium) and the The Chili Cheese Six Dollar Burger (1,000 calories, 56 grams of fat, and 2,500 milligrams of sodium) – to name just a couple on a long list of heart-stoppingly unhealthy meal options – Carl’s Jr. is quickly becoming the one-stop shop for over-the-top fast food. KFC’s Double-Down got a lot of attention for nutso nutritional values (540 calories, 32 grams of fat, and 1,380 milligrams of sodium), but Carl’s Jr. menu items push KFC right off its roost. Many of Carl’s Jr. menu items easily double some of those nightmarish nutritional numbers – most shockingly, with astronomical sodium levels,” Examiner writes.

The Footlong Cheeseburger won’t be an exception to that – and, what’s even worse, it won’t even taste that good. “Orange County Register staff writer, Nancy Luna, recently reviewed the Footlong Cheeseburger, but – perhaps unsurprisingly – walked away underwhelmed. Food blog Foodbeast also sampled the 12-inch sandwich, reporting that ‘it’s basically just a few patties and ingredients mimicking a sub sandwich. The dough on the bread seems a little off, but the execution of the entire sandwich still remains interesting.’ Rather than one foot-long hamburger patty, Luna describes the sandwich as ‘three tiny round patties carefully placed between a Hoagie-style bun.’ The ‘regular’ version sells for $4, while a ‘deluxe’ (with lettuce and tomato) costs $4.50,” the aforementioned publication says of the first wave of reactions to the new sandwich.

Perhaps waiting until the Footlong goes national or out of fear for how nutritionists might react to it, the Carl’s Jr. official page does not include any nutrition facts on the new sandwich.
