Actor leaves shyness at the door to promote “New Moon”

When he was accepted to reprise his part as Jacob Black in the “Twilight” franchise following pressure from the fan community, young actor Taylor Lautner must have known most of the promo campaign would be centered on the abs he’d have to outline in the months to come. Said and done, and, now, as “New Moon,” the second film in the series is about to drop, fans have yet another Lautner piece in the magazines, this time in GQ.

The mag features the actor who has often stressed he doesn’t feel all that comfortable with so much media attention on his physique, regardless of how ripped and stunning it is, in a photo that speaks of everything else than shyness. Dressed in trousers and a classy, striped shirt, Lautner is unbuttoned, ripped chest and abdomen in plain sight. Not that fans are complaining – quite on the contrary, for that matter.

Speaking of how he managed to get in such extraordinary shape over such a little time, just a few months, Taylor tells GQ he envisioned his goal properly and then set out to reach it. “I tried to stay focused on the things I could control.” the actor explains. As for the many shirtless scenes included in “New Moon,” they are completely justifiable by the fact that the film sticks to the original Stephen Meyer novel. Again, not that fans are complaining or anything.

“When a man transforms into a wolf, all of his clothes get shredded. When he comes back to human form, he’s wearing ripped jeans, and that’s about it. It’s the way it was written. The great thing about this series is we stay true to the books.” Lautner says of the shapeshifting scenes that will be featured in “New Moon.” That the film stays true to the book to the best of possibilities is not something new, the actors who play the other guys in the Wolf Pack having already dished out some details to the media about how “New Moon” is going to play out.

Of the lot, Alex Meraz was perhaps the most talkative, going into elaborate details about how director Chris Weitz told them to imagine the transformation scene and “pop like popcorn” and even speaking of one incident where he overplayed a scene and ended up physically shaking leading lady Kristen Stewart.
