Actor complains of increased media attention because of his physique

Earlier this year, Taylor Lautner announced he had been regularly hitting the gym training to reprise his role as Jacob Black in the “Twilight” sequel, “New Moon.” A few months later, the results were visible: an extra 30 pounds of muscle. Given Lautner’s age, the popularity of the vampire film and the actor’s good looks, it’s no wonder the entire world turned its attention on him, much to his embarrassment, as he says in a recent interview.

Many say Lautner should already be accustomed to the downsides of fame, bearing in mind that he’s been exposed to it since an early age. Most of these people forget that, at the end of the day, Taylor is only 17 and still has a lot of growing up to do, fans claim. Another aspect that is easily overlooked is that media attention can sometimes be incredibly harsh and inappropriate, a thing Taylor himself subscribes to.

“Fans have been howling over Taylor Lautner, who has packed on 30 pounds of muscle to play werewolf Jacob in the ‘Twilight’ sequel ‘New Moon’ (out Nov. 20). ‘It’s actually quite uncomfortable knowing so many people are seeing that!’ Lautner, 17, told Us Magazine Saturday at Teen Vogue’s 7th Annual Young Hollywood party in L.A. ‘It’s a little bit embarrassing!’ Beefing up took ‘a lot of hard work,’ said Lautner, who also goes shirtless in the sequel. ‘Eating, working out – a lot of stuff.’” Us Magazine writes in the current issue.

It’s not that Taylor didn’t have fun while preparing for the role, though, but rather that many people become fixated on the physical “improvement” alone and that’s what truly bothers him. Of course, as one can imagine, the stress of doing a scene and knowing that millions of people will be watching it attentively, carefully analyzing every little detail about it, also adds a lot to the “embarrassment” of the situation.

“He is now shooting the film’s third installment ‘Eclipse.’ ‘It’s really good,’ he said. ‘We are having a lot of fun hanging out up in Vancouver.’ Want to see more of Lautner? Pick up October’s Teen Vogue, where he graces the cover. ‘It’s crazy!’ he said of landing the cover.” Us Magazine further writes.
