The holiday season over, the gyms are now crowded with ladies (and gentlemen) eager to shed the extra weight. Amongst them, there is one though who is in there for the opposite reason: “Twilight” hottie Taylor Lautner has been hitting the gym to gain weight and build up muscle for the sequel of the film, “New Moon.”

As we know from many other actors who have done this before him (the case of Christian Bale who went from one extreme to another in “The Machinist” and “Batman Begins” being the first that comes to mind), gaining weight for a role is not out of the ordinary. However, it still has to be done in a controlled environment, so to speak, with proper attention paid to daily eating habits and workouts, as Taylor tells the latest issue of Us Weekly.

“I’ve been working hard for eight or nine months, and I’ve put on about 26 pounds of muscle.” the actor tells the magazine about what being “a man on a mission” means to him. It’s a difficult task to accomplish, though, but he is dedicated to it, and will certainly achieve his goal. “I’m literally in the gym every single day for at least two hours a day. It’s hard work. My motivation is basically my passion for the character of Jacob and the series. I want the fans to be proud of the movie, so I have to live up to Jacob.” he adds.

Since no amount of working out ever led to muscle mass if not accompanied by a proper diet, the 16-year-old thespian is also extremely careful about what he eats. “[I’m] trying to eat as much as possible.” he says, adding that it’s not just any type of food that will do the trick in his case. “Basically I’m supposed to eat everything I can and try to keep it lean. Lean meats and veggies.” he reveals.

Earlier this month, after weeks of indecision, it was announced that Lautner would reprise his role in the “Twilight” sequel, much to the delight of fans worldwide who desperately wanted him back. “It’s blown up into something we had no idea, so it’s really exciting. I’m so thrilled to be a part of something like this.” Taylor told the mag about the awesome public reception that “Twilight” got.
