It seems that T-Mobie USA is ramping up for the launch of its second mobile phone powered by Google's Android operating system, as the company's CTO Cole Brodman has stated recently in an interview with mocoNews, announcing that details on the upcoming handset will become available during the following few weeks.

No exact release date has been unveiled at the moment, but the company seems to be determined to launch the second Android phone in early summer. Interestingly enough, it seems that the phone is expected to come from other T-Mobile partner than HTC, the maker of the first Android handset, the T-Mobile G1 (aka HTC Dream).

Even so, the next mobile phone to come to T-Mobile running under the Android platform is expected to be the HTC Magic, which is already available for purchase in Europe. What is sure though is the fact that the handset will come to the market featuring the Android 1.5 firmware, or the Cupcake, as the OS has been codenamed.

At the same time, it seems that the carrier plans to make a shift from the initial idea of an Android phone that materialized into the T-Mobile G1, and that the upcoming devices will not be as tightly connected to Google as the initial one was. At the same time, Brodman is reported to have said that the handsets will carry more of the T-Mobile brand in the future.

“My perspective is that each device will be focused on a different consumer segment…There’s a couple of paths you can take: You can partner close with Google, and it has Google brand sprinkled throughout, and then there’s the carrier and handset initiative—and non-Google based innovation. We are going to take both paths to market, and you’ll see different elements sprinkled in,” Brodman stated.
