Might launch Android-powered Hero

HTC is teasing with the preparation of an event in London on June 24, which is reported to celebrate a global announcement about the future of HTC design. There are no exact details on what the company plans to do on that date, but rumors on the Web suggest that it might be something connected to the recently spotted Android-powered HTC Hero.

The HTC Hero ROM surfaced into the wild a few weeks ago with a brand new user interface, codenamed Rosie, and the fact that the event points towards a design announcement might sustain these rumors after all. On the other hand, the company could announce something that has nothing to do with the Hero, so the safest bet would be to sit tight and wait to see what happens.

Still, we should mention that some of last week's rumors regarding the release date of the phone pointed towards the fact that it should come to the market as soon as June, and that the carrier to have it in Europe would be Orange. Moreover, it seems that a North American version is expected to surface as soon as August, though no carrier was unveiled so far.

The fact that the release date for the HTC Hero is getting closer is also suggested by the appearance of a leaked promo video with the handset, which also shows that it should become available for purchase in no less than 7 color options. While previous Android-based handsets from HTC only came in white or black, the upcoming device seems determined to change the established design.

Hopefully, HTC will indeed announce the upcoming availability of the HTC Hero in London, for both the wider range of color options and the brand new UI suggest that this phone should mark the announced change in the HTC design. Until more details on what the company plans to do on June 24 become available, you might want to take a look at the promo video with the handset.
