December 1st should have been the day when mobile phone carrier T-Mobile UK released a new software update for its Samsung Galaxy S users, namely Android 2.2 Froyo, but it wasn't. The next day wasn't either, though the carrier did announce on December 2nd that the release of this update was delayed for the next week.

Initially promised for the third quarter of the ongoing year, the Android 2.2 Froyo software update for Samsung Galaxy S was delayed a few times before, though it started to arrive on unlocked devices out there several weeks ago.

Carrier branded Galaxy S units were expected to receive the software update before the end of November, but that did not happen for all of them.

While other wireless carriers in the UK already released Android 2.2 for their Galaxy S devices, T-Mobile is delaying it a few days more.

Ironically, back in September, it was the only operator to commit to the delivery of this update before the end of Q3, even if others said at that time that Samsung had delayed it.

On November 30, T-Mobile UK announced via its support forums that the software was being readied for an OTA release, and that users would also be able to download it via Kies as of December 1st.

Here's what a carrier's employee, Barry, posted on Thursday:

I've been talking to the handset team and the Samsung people today and the latest news is as follows.

Unfortunately the 2.2 update will not be available via KIES today as expected and Samsung have confirmed that FOTA will not feature as part of this update, but should appear at a later date. Samsung are indicating the firmware will be made available at some point next week.

It still remains to be seen when exactly would the company deliver the software, as well as whether it would manage to make the move during the new promised launch window or not. Hopefully, no further delays would be announced. Keep an eye on this space for additional info on the matter.
