Mobile phone carrier T-Mobile is getting ready to deliver to its users one of the highly anticipated software update of this quarter, namely the Android 2.2 software update for the carrier's Galaxy S devices.

Originally set to arrive before the end of the third quarter, the software solution was pushed back a lot, in most markets around the world, including the UK, though T-Mobile is among the last wireless carriers to release it to its users.

However, it seems that the company does have a good reason for holding back so long, namely the fact that it was aiming at offering the solution over the air to all of its users.

Moreover, according to a recent post on the carrier's support forums, the update should be delivered to Galaxy S devices on its airwaves no later than today.

Here's what the wireless carrier states on the matter:

"Our handset team have been working closely with Samsung regarding this update and future updates and would like to share their news with you.

Our goal is to make the update process smoother and we are working to become the only mobile operator offering FOTA (Firmware over the Air) updates for the Samsung product range. The aim was and still is to have the FOTA update available at some point today.

If for reasons outwith our control we are unable to have a FOTA update process fully functioning by close of play today, then we will make the update available for download via Samsung Kies tomorrow (Dec 1st)."

Of course, since this is only a goal (the announcement was made yesterday), there is also the possibility that the wireless carrier does not manage to make the software update available for its users.

Other operators in the country have released the Android 2.2 update via Kies. Samsung did the same for all of the unlocked flavors of Galaxy S available on the UK market and elsewhere. Keep an eye on this space for more info on the matter.
