Although T-Mobile announced last week that it would upgrade all MyTouch 4G smartphones to Gingerbread by the end of the year, it appears that there are still many users who have yet to receive the update.

It looks like the carrier only made a testing roll-out on July 20, but T-Mobile stated that a broader deployment to MyTouch 4G users will begin sometime in the coming weeks and will continue until the end of the year.

Luckily, those who own the MyTouch 4G smartphone and did not receive the OTA (over the air) update yet will be able to upgrade their phones by visiting the nearest T-Mobile store.

T-Mobile has just announced that beginning August 5, MyTouch 4G owners will be able to go to one of the carrier's retail store to update their smartphones to the most recent software version.

Basically, a T-Mobile representative will manually upgrade the phone using an SD card, which means that owners of the MyTouch 4G should back up their information as the update can erase all data on the device.

In addition, it is recommended to synchronize all contacts to Google or T-Mobile Backup, and write down or memorize all the applications that the user wants to re-install.

Obviously, the update will take some time, around 30 minutes or so to complete, and requires the phone to have over 50% battery life.

Those who are not familiar with the changes added by Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update can read the change log detailed below:
