myTouch 4G owners rejoice as T-Mobile has just announced that it has started to deploy the long-awaited Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread software updated.

After numerous delays and rumors about the upcoming firmware upgrade, T-Mobile and HTC have decided to finally go live with the Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) system upgrade for myTouch 4G.

However, those who are now using the smartphone should know that there will be a limited pilot for the update starting today, July 20.

Basically, this is just a testing roll-out, but the carrier stated that a broader deployment to myTouch 4G users will begin sometime in the coming weeks and will continue until the end of the year.

This might sound disappointing, especially for those who won't be among the first to receive the Gingerbread update, but at least we now know that HTC and T-Mobile are definitely trying to bring the latest iteration of Android to myTouch 4G devices.

Besides bringing the firmware to Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread), the update provides the following enhancements and improvements:

New features:

- 2010 Exchange compatibility; - New version of Swype.

Improved issues: - Bluetooth audio works better when answering a call from phone and Bluetooth is paired; - Display is more stable and responsive during boot up or use; - Domestic roaming data connection is more stable; - Message inbox saves; - Various software and stability improvements.

It is important to understand that there is no timeline for receiving the update, which means that the carrier cannot accomplish the roll-out process faster.

In addition, T-Mobile mentions that it will not be able to manually push the software to customers who ask to receive it ahead of others.

If the Gingerbread software update proves to be perfectly optimized for the myTouch 4G, we can assume that the testing period won't last more than a week.
