Wireless carrier T-Mobile USA seems set to soon enhance the experience some of its users receive from the mobile phones in their hands. The carrier is getting ready to release a new software update for the Motorola CLIQ XT, the second Android-based device it released on its airwaves. According to a recent post on the company's forum, it is recruiting a number of 1,000 customers to test the software update before releasing it into the wild. At the same time, the wireless carrier notes that the solution is not the long-expected Android 2.1 update.

Here's what the aforementioned forum post notes:

Good news for our loyal CLIQ XT Community! We are recruiting 1,000 customers to test and provide feedback on the software update for the Motorola CLIQ XT, before it is officially released to all customers. If you are interested, please Subscribe to this thread, as we will be posting updates throughout the day. The first update we make will be how and when you can take part in this exclusive trial! For information on enhancements included in the update, please visit: http://cot.ag/9SNT73. Note: This is not the Android 2.1 upgrade

Motorola CLIQ XT owners selected for the trial should already be able to download the software update on their devices. Those who volunteered for the test would have to manually check for a software update, T-Mobile announced. The software update trial for the Motorola CLIQ XT started yesterday at 5 pm Pacific time. According to some of those who downloaded and installed the solution, some issues might surface after the installation process is completed.

Unfortunately, it seems that T-Mobile is only releasing a maintenance update for the handset, and not a new operating system flavor, as some might have expected. No info on when the Android 2.1 update would be released for this handset emerged, though Motorola promised it should arrive in the near future. Initially, the handset vendor said it would deliver Android 2.1 to CLIQ and CLIQ XT before the second quarter is over, which it didn't, but the landing of the solution might not be that far in the end.
