The Street Fighter franchise is one of the most popular series of fighting games out there, having a big number of fans in a lot of countries and territories. The game has always made use of characters from all over the world, and such an initiative brought it critical acclaim everywhere it was launched.

The big commercial success and the large number of fans from all around the world have made the classic franchise a candidate for revival. As such, Capcom, the company responsible for all of the SF games, announced some time ago that it would be releasing two new titles that would bring honor to the franchise and mark its entry into the next generation realm in terms of graphics and design.

The first title to be released is a High Definition remake of one of the most popular games in the series and it will be entitled Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. The game will consist of all the famous and world renowned fighters from the SF universe, all with high quality sprites and graphics, adapted for the new technology available today. As we reported, the game is done and it is waiting for the green light from Sony and Microsoft to be launched on the two platforms, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 respectively.

The second title, and the most anticipated one, is Street Fighter IV, the first completely 3D game in the history of the franchise. Although it has been already launched in Japan, last summer, as a version only for the arcades in the country, various rumors have begun to spread in the big SF community regarding the release dates for North America and Europe.

But now all is clear, as an official announcement on the Capcom blog has just informed us that the eagerly anticipated title has a concrete release date. North Americans will be getting their hands on the fighting game on February 17, while Europeans will have to wait until February 20 for a chance to play as their beloved characters. Also, this will be a simultaneous release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, to avoid any arguing as to which console Capcom supports.

All in all, some very interesting news that is sure to make SF fans very happy. Let's just hope that Capcom will deliver two great titles that will offer the same great experience as all of the games in this franchise.
