Only in the United Kingdom

At last, something exciting to report from the land of videogames charts. In the United Kingdom, which is fast becoming a bigger market for games than Japan, Wii Fit, the long time top spot holder from Nintendo, has been dethroned by Street Fighter IV, the fighting game from Capcom. And there are other interesting moves throughout the chart.

Street Fighter IV sold 53% of its copies on the PlayStation 3 and only 47% on the Xbox 360, making it one of the few games to lead in sales on the Sony made home gaming console. Chart Track, which compiles the data for the videogames chart, indicates that Street Fighter IV is the fastest selling beat them up title since the records were introduced way back in 1997. Interestingly, Capcom is getting the top spot in sales for the third time in as many years during the month of February. It took the top spot with Devil May Cry 4 in 2008 and with Lost Planet in 2007.

Wii Fit is at number two in the charts, while Dawn of War II, the Relic developed and THQ published real time strategy title, is at number three in its debut week. It's nice to see that a game launched exclusively on the PC can go toe to toe with huge console releases like Street Fighter IV and Wii Fit. It should also be noted that many sales of Dawn of War II are probably going through Steam, which the United Kingdom chart is not counting.

Ben 10: Alien Force has shot up from number 13, where it sat last week, to number four, while FIFA 09 continues to sell strong and remains at number five. Call of Duty: World at War is also a title that might be staying in the top ten for quite a while, followed by the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection.

Mario Kart Wii and Wii Play are holding the eighth and ninth spots, while F.E.A.R. 2 is at number ten, which is quite a spectacular fall, considering it was at number two last week.
