Tired of Mario and The Legend of Zelda? Probably not, but publishers Majesco and 505 GameStreet along with well-known developer Taito, thought of "spicing things up a bit with their new Cooking Mama: Cook Off for the Nintendo Wii.

Making special use of the Wiimote, Cooking Mama: Cook Off is an entertaining blend of mashing, slicing, chopping and stirring as players create more than 300 real recipes from 10 different nations scattered around the world. An interesting feature is that Cooking Mama: Cook Off offers a 2-player kitchen competition to determine who can cook the best meal the fastest.

Cooking Mama has its DS porting launched earlier in December 2006. Cooking Mama: Cook Off should prove to be a better title on the Wii, as you might have guessed that the Wiimote will be essential in stirring a soup, for example. Control will be essential, as Mama is quite perfectionist about the whole cooking deal. Screenshots posted on Eurogamer however, show that this title, the same as any other Wii title for that matter, is quite cartoon-ish. No biggy (it's Nintendo we're talking here), except a game like this could use some realistic features, if it's going to teach people how to kook. Clearly, that wasn't Taito's opinion, 'cause that kitchen looks like Barbie's.

As I was saying, the Wiimote is your ultimate cooking tool. Gamers are in total control of the cooking action as they chop, grate, slice, stir or roll ingredients in a pan, bowl or plate. Players can create 55 real world dishes from 10 different nations, in a series of Cook Off challenges, also adjust their timing, or make decisions on the fly.

And like any respectable game where good progress earns a player a certain item or feature, creating wonderful dishes will result in players winning seasonings, small utensils and other items, that once earned, will make their task a lot easier. Also bronze, silver, and gold medals can be earned from Mama based on the quality of your cooking. The game is due for release on 11th May. So, hungry anyone?
