On May 8th, mobile phone carrier Sprint has made available for purchase on its airwaves a new high-end smartphone powered by Google's Android operating system, the Nexus S 4G, its very own flavor of Samsung's device. The Nexus S 4G arrived at Sprint with support for the carrier's WiMAX services, while bringing forth all of the appealing features the device already packed when released on shelves in December last year.

At Sprint, the phone was made available for $199.99 upon the signing of a two year contract agreement with the wireless carrier, but users can already purchase it for less than that.

Best Buy, Sprint's partner for the launch of Nexus S 4G, has made the phone available for only $149.99 on contract.

Nexus S was the very first handset in the world to come to the market with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board. The mobile phone sports a 4-inch touchscreen display.

“A thin-profile contour display gives the Nexus S a unique slim and trim size that fits easily in the palm of your hand and along the side of your face,” Sprint notes.

“Its brighter, high-contrast screen means colors are incredibly vibrant, text is crisp at any size, and luminance is up to 1.5x higher than conventional LCD displays.”

The handset also includes a 1 GHz Hummingbird application processor, as well as 16GB of built in memory, and support for both 3G and 4G frequencies, in addition to WiFi and Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities.

The Nexus S 4G also features support for a wide range of Google Mobile Services, as well as for a load of applications available for download via the Android Market.

The Nexus S comes pre-installed with all the Google apps you’ve come to know and love, and it’s enabled with new and popular features like true multi-tasking, Wi-Fi hotspot, internet calling, Near Field Communication (NFC) support, and full HTML web browsing,” Sprint continues.

“With the Nexus S, you’ll always be the first to receive software upgrades and new Google mobile apps as soon as they become available.”
