Video game publisher SouthPeak Interactive announces that it is acquiring the Gamecock Media Group, with the intention of publishing the games they developed. The transaction is said to allow both companies to reach a wider audience while making sure they remain independent from big videogame publishers.

Melanie Mroz, the Chief Executive Officer of SouthPeak, says that “Gamecock brings us a solid slate of upcoming titles, including Legendary, Mushroom Men and Velvet Assassin and supports our strategy of working with independent developers. We are excited to give the Gamecock titles a bigger platform to succeed”.

Gamecock was founded back in 2007 and the idea was to create a videogaming company which acted like an independent film producer, signing promising intellectual property and working closely with the developers as the games became reality. SouthPeak did not immediately reveal the price it paid for Gamecock but it is seems like a good chunk of the almost 13 million dollars the company has recently raised is involved in the deal. It's very probable that upcoming titles like Legendary and Velvet Assasin will be distributed under the SouthPeak label.

Legendary will allow players to fight against mythical creatures as they are rampaging through modern day cities. The game will focus on the epic feeling of such fights while also providing players with a wide array of spectacular weapons which can take out creatures. You will get to fight Werewolves, Minotaurs and Griffons on October 21 if the release date announced by Gamecock is still correct.

Velvet Assassin will appear in the first half of 2009 and will focus on the exploits of Violette Summer, a spy who infiltrates the German war machine and performs a variety of missions, from assassination to sabotage. The game is based on the real life of Violette Szabo.
