Might leave Windows Mobile aside

Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is reportedly preparing to move deeper into the Android and Symbian land, while leaving aside the Windows Mobile operating system for its future smartphones. According to the news, the move might be driven by the fact that sales in the Windows Mobile area have been sluggish lately, and that the other two mobile OSes seem to promise more.

“Next year SE will show 4 android phones, 3-4 S60 phones. I prefer HTC over Android phones, S60 isn't so bad,” is what a tweet from Eldar Murtazin reads. While this doesn't mean that the company will indeed leave the Windows Mobile boat, it definitely suggests that it will focus on the development of Android and Symbian devices.

On the other hand, we should also mention that Sony Ericsson has been reportedly moving away from Microsoft's operating system through refusing to support it in the future. The recently unveiled Xperia X2 could be the last Windows Mobile phone coming from Sony Ericsson, as another possible Windows phone Sony Ericsson was working at might have been canceled.

Android and Symbian S60 will be the company's choice, notes UnwiredView. Symbian is an operating system the phone maker is already accustomed with, and it has already announced an S60 handset for this year, the Satio. As for Android, reports on a Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 (Rachael) have been cycling around for quite some time now, and that phone has even been spotted on a retailer's website.

The joint venture has had some bad quarters lately, and it comes as no surprise that it plans on regaining its foothold by any means. For the time being, however, these could be only speculations, though Sony Ericsson wouldn't be the first maker to move away from Windows Mobile and get closer to Android, as Motorola already made the same move this year.
