Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is set to bring to the market in the not too far future its first tablet PC that would run under Google's Android operating system, as well as a series of LTE-capable devices, if some of the latest reports on the mater are to be believed.

Apparently, the company would partner with Sony to bring the said device to the market, but an official confirmation on the matter is not available for the time being.

Sony Ericsson's tablet PC should boast a 9.4-inch touchscreen display, and would run under Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system.

The release of this device would enable the company to better compete on a market that already saw an impressive boost due to the wide range of tablets that were introduced at CES and MWC this year.

Moreover, the handset vendor is also rumored to plan on better competing in other areas of the market as well, including 4G, with an aim at having the first LTE-capable smartphone launched on the market 'very soon'.

Sony Ericsson CTO Jan Uddenfeldt was the one who confirmed plans to make the said LTE device available for purchase in the near future, a recent article on FierceWireless states.

At MWC, Sony Ericsson and ST-Ericsson partnered to showcase TD-LTE voice and video services for China Mobile on an unnamed LTE handset. Uddenfeldt reportedly said: “we are advanced in our product development.”

LTE devices and an Android tablet are only one side of Sony Ericsson's plans for the future.

According to the company, another focus would be on having its devices running under the newest OS versions. Moreover, it also aims at packing them with the latest advancements in the industry.

“A year ago, the awareness of the importance of being on the latest Android release wasn't in the company,” Uddenfeldt said. This is why Xperia X10 owners are confined to the Android 2.1 OS version, we might add.

He also said that Sony Ericsson might come to the market with a Windows Phone device, though nothing was decided on this as of yet. The company did not launch such a handset for about a year or so.
