Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has released a video promo for its small LiveView Android accessory, the first such ad since the device was made available for download back in fall 2010.

The Sony Ericsson LiveView is nothing more than a Bluetooth mini display that connects to an Android-based smartphone. With this device, users can view various notifications without having the pull the smartphone out of their pockets.

The most appealing feature of this device is that it was built with support for a wider range of devices than just Sony Ericsson's Android smartphones.

Thus, more users can enjoy the capabilities of this device when it comes to fast and easily check Facebook/Twitter, control the media player on their handsets, and do more.

The functionality of this device is limited at the moment, but Sony Ericsson provided the necessary tools for developers to come up with applications and widgets for it, and the list of available functions would expand as more software is added to the Android Market.

Some info on what can be done at the moment with Sony Ericsson's LiveView can be found in the video below.

We should also note that the device can be easily carried around, since one can wear it as a watch (though some of its early adopters reported various issues with it).

Launched initially on the European market, the device is now available for purchase in the United States as well, where it landed no later than this week.

Sony Ericsson certainly took its time before making the LiveView available for purchase stateside too, but US users can now try it out for around $82 (the usual price is of $159.99), from Amazon (via Xperia Blog).

Have a look at the video below to see whether the new device appeals to you or not, and head over to Amazon here to learn more on it, in case you would like to purchase one unit.
