14 DAY TRIAL // Oh joy, another concept phone surfaced the Internet these days. The new 'inexistent' Sony Ericsson P7i seems to be the peak of the line for the Swedish-Japanese company, at least through its technical features. The handset has been stuffed with all the latest features and technologies available at the moment on the communication market, but also some that haven't been disclosed yet.
Starting with the 2.8'' WVGA TFT Multitap Touchscreen display, supporting 16 Million colors and Symbian 9.5 UIQ operating (which hasn't been yet announced), the smartphone seems to follow the P1i line which was more a fiasco than a market success. Sony Ericsson P7i should obviously be branded with the VAIO logo if not to improve the quality of the device then at least for marketing reasons.
The quadband will be able to make data transfers with speeds of up to 5.76 Mbit/s because of the HSUPA technology included, but the user can also opt for 'lower' technologies like EDGE or UMTS. The smartphone seems to be a slider and features a full QWERTY keyboard, pity that it's the same terrible Sony Ericsson keypad specific to Symbian UIQ devices that has 2 symbols on the same key.
Anyway, such a high-tech device must definitely feature a powerful CPU like a Ti-Omap 620 MHz ARM11 family, backed by an Nvidia GoForce 5500 GPU (graphical processor unit). The latter will enable the 5 Megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, the possibility to record 30fps VGA video clips.
If you think that 256 MB internal memory won't be enough, then you can expand that because the concept device features Dual Type memory slot card - Memory Stick Micro and microSD. Other features include FM Radio with RDS, Radio recording Track ID (3.0), Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and A2DP, Walkman Touch v2.0 Media Player and XMB Media Manager 1.1, but also 3.5mm jack port and FiR (Fast IrDA). The built-in A-GPS receiver and WLAN 802.11b/g/n UpNp/UMA features become a must for this device, so they have also been included.
Even if it's just a concept it seems that people want more and more from their handset, no matter the cost that such a device will have after being beefed up with so many latest technologies and features. I just hope there's someone up there (at Sony Ericsson) that hears and sees us (and maybe loves us), that would make this concept phone "happen".
