Sony Ericsson has announced a new lightweight UMTS phone, the K610i model. The new handset is probably the lightest 3G-enabled phone, weighing only 92 grams and being only 17 mm thick. Sony Ericsson's K610i design is very similar to the K750.

The tri-band GSM handset has a 1.9 inch display with 262k colors and 176 x 220 pixel resolution, a 2 megapixel digital camera with 2x digital zoom, and a secondary camera for video calling. In addition, the phone is limited to expandable cards memory Sony Memory Stick Micro (up to 1GB), a multimedia player (including the Disc2Phone software found in the Walkman series of handsets) that supports MP3, AAC and E-AAC files, Bluetooth and USB 2.0 connectivity, advanced web microbrowser, email client, push email service, RSS reader, and software for creating photo blogs.

The price of the handset is unknown, but the Sony Ericsson K610i should be available in Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific during the second quarter of 2006. Also, there is a K610c variant for mainland China. Unfortunately there is no version of the K610 currently targeted for availability in the US.
