Announced in July 2004 and delayed until December the new Sony Ericsson S710a was finally launched by Cingular. The phone should be available in most stores at least by the end of the week. The phone uses the same software as a previous model form Sony Ericsson, K700i, but it has a lot features. The display is a 2.3 inch 262K TFT, which is perfectly integrated in the swivel-style design of the phone.

All the navigation controls are on the same part of the body as the screen, so it can be used at just about everything other than compose a text message without opening the phone up. On the back side of the unit is a small cover that opens to reveal the 1.3 megapixel CCD lens. Close to the lens is positioned a powerful LED flash. The digital zoom of the camera is 8x, so it can be a rival for a low end digital camera.

Other cool features of that phone include EDGE high-speed data, MemoryStick Duo card slot and Bluetooth.

But all those features come with a price. According to the reviews, the battery life is just two days with a full charge.

Pricing for the Sony Ericsson S710a are $449.99 with a 2-year contract, $499.99 with a 1-year contract and $549.99 without a contract. While the device will likely be cheaper from authorized dealers, Cingular's current pricing makes the phone more expensive than the Treo 650.
