If the recently released trailer for “Bel Ami” is any indication, Pattinson fans are in for a treat, because the film promises to make the wedding night scene in “Breaking Dawn” pale by comparison. Check it out below, embedded at the end of the article.

Based on the novel of the same name by Guy de Maupassant, “Bel Ami” chronicles the adventures of a charmer who climbs his way on the social ladder in Paris by bedding the wives of important public figures.

Besides the “Twilight” heartthrob, it also stars huge names like Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas, and has been getting a lot of media attention even before it went into production.

A trailer for it leaked on Friday but was almost immediately pulled down. Below is the official version, which emerged online shortly after the leak.

It couldn’t have come at a better time either, word in the blogosphere has it: Pattinson is now getting a lot of attention for his appearance at Comic-Con 2011 to promote “Breaking Dawn,” so perhaps the studio is trying to ride that wave for “Bel Ami” too.

However, there’s still something fishy about the project – about its release date, to be more specific. There’s a lot of contradictory information on when it comes out, as Hollywood News also points out in a recent article.

Right now, the official IMDB page of “Bel Ami” doesn’t list any release date but, at the time the aforementioned article came out, things were different.

“Per IMDB, the August 25th release date is attributed to Greece. Three September release dates are subsequently listed for Denmark, Norway, and France,” the article reads.

“Yet, the distribution company’s earlier announcement about an August 2011 UK release date is nowhere to be found, and it seems nobody knows when this film will release in the US,” Hollywood News says.

If the film is due out in theaters so soon, why is there no promo campaign for it, save this trailer, the e-zine asks. Packed with stars and a good story, “Bel Ami” should be everywhere right now – yet it is not .

“It gets weirder,” Hollywood News adds. “A June 8th ‘Breaking Dawn’ featurette in The Hollywood Reporter peripherally mentioned an October 19th release date for ‘Bel Ami’.”

“Yet, this is the only mention any reputable venue has made, and when a skeptical fan left a comment asking for additional confirmation, The Hollywood Reporter did not reply,” Hollywood News writes.

In other words, there are concrete signs that “Bel Ami” may not be released this summer or fall, but towards the end of the year or even later.

This could also mean that the film did not turn out as expected, which translates into distribution issues, word online has it.

For the time being, fans are only left with the trailer. Check it out and duly enjoy.
