South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics announced late last year the launch of a new mobile operating system, called bada, and the first handset powered by it is already available for purchase on the market. Released several weeks ago in Europe, Samsung Wave, the first bada-based handset in the world, has just landed on the United States too, unlocked via Amazon. According to the online retailer, the phone can be purchased for $399.95, and is in stock.

The Wave model available for purchase from Amazon sports Quad-band GSM connectivity. Those interested in trying out the new Samsung smartphone won't be able to enjoy its features on any wireless carrier in the country, but the fact that the handset comes unlocked should compensate a little. For the time being, the Wave can be purchased in the United States only from Amazon (it can be seen here), though chances are that various operators in the country would also added it to their offering in the near future. If not the Wave, maybe its successors, the Wave 2 or Wave 2 pro, would arrive this way.

Here's how the device is described at Amazon: “The Samsung Wave offers a Super AMOLED 3.3" display that makes the screen truly come alive, a Social Hub to bring you closer to your contacts and connections, and TouchWiz 3.0 for an intuitive and hugely customizable user interface. The Wave's high-speed CPU ensures swift, smooth application experiences and multi-tasking, making the device an always-on mobile multimedia companion. The Samsung Wave has been built to offer users an unrivalled level of performance, customization and choice in how they connect with their world.”

In related news, we learn that Canadian mobile phone users might soon have the possibility to acquire the bada smartphone from two wireless carriers in their country, including Rogers and Bell. The latter was already known to plan the launch of Wave, with a release date set for July 8, while the former made no official announcement on the matter as of yet. Wave dummy phones are currently arriving in Rogers' stores, MobileSyrup reports, suggesting that it might not be too long before the actual device lands too.
