Samsung Wave, the first ever mobile phone to run under Samsung's new bada operating system, has been put on sale in several European markets today. The leading handset vendor has just announced the commercial availability of its device in Germany, France and the UK, stating that the phone represents the company's commitment to 'smartphone democratization.'

The South Korean mobile phone maker is determined to build up an entire ecosystem around the new bada operating system, and the launch of Samsung Wave represents one step it takes in this direction. According to the company, Wave gets launched on the market along with the software portal called Samsung Apps, which is set to become available in 80 countries around the world, offering users access to premium content and applications.

“The Samsung Wave represents our strategy to deliver rich, exciting smartphone experiences to everyone,” JK Shin, president and head of the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, commented on the announcement. “This launch will make our platform vision a reality and consumers, developers and operators will experience the freedom of choice that bada enables.”

The new Samsung Wave is expected to soon expand its availability from European countries to other markets around the world, including Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America. Moreover, Samsung also announced that it planned on delivering the complete bada SDK 1.0.0 to developers, which is set to soon become available, following the recent release of a beta flavor of this solution.

The specifications list of Samsung Wave includes a Super AMOLED touchscreen display (which can offer a brighter, clearer, and less reflective viewing experience) with anti-smudge technology, a 1GHz processor for enhanced performance levels, support for DivX, Xvid, MP4 and WMV codecs, HD video (720p) decoding and recording capabilities, Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi 802.11n connectivity, and others more.

“The Samsung Wave benefits from a superb 1GHz processor which offers users the best graphic performance available today. Its speed makes the touch screen user interface incredibly responsive and intuitive and, more importantly, means that the 3D and memory-intensive graphic and video performance is unsurpassed,” the handset vendor stated.
