Samsung Wave, the first mobile phone in the world to run under Samsung's own mobile operating system, called bada, is expected to make an appearance on the market in Canada. Moreover, it seems that the device is headed for the country on the airwaves of a national carrier, as reports on Bell getting ready to release it in the near future started to emerge.

This is not the first newly unveiled handset that Bell is rumored to plan launching this summer, as the carrier was previously reported to be preparing the release of the Android 2.1-based HTC Legend for its customers, something that might happen on June 11 or around that date. The info on Wave being bound to make an appearance on Bell's lineup comes from mobilesyrup, which cites “the same reliable source” that announced the upcoming availability of Legend.

The Samsung Wave is expected to arrive on the market in Canada with a 3.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display that can boast a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, while running under Samsung's bada OS, on top of which the mobile phone maker pre-loaded its TouchWiz 3.0 user interface. The phone is powered by a 1GHz Samsung processor, which can offer a lot of raw power to its users.

The specifications list of Wave (S8500) also includes a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, flash and HD video recording capabilities, as well as a 3.5mm headset jack, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity options, and more. The device comes with a microSD memory card slot that can hold up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The handset vendor has high hopes for the Samsung Wave and for the mobile platform on it, and it announced the launch of a bada Developer Challenge today, with prizes that total $2,700,000 (USD). Although the OS is new, the company is hard at work with attracting developers to its side, something that should result in a nice range of applications available for bada, making it more appealing to end users.
