Omnia HD in Italy, i8910 HD in the Netherlands

After all the rumors we heard last week that Samsung i8910 Omnia HD would lose its moniker and be known only by the model name, we also heard that the Korean mobile phone maker intended to make the device available in some markets under the Omnia HD title, and it seems that Italy will be one of the countries to receive the handset this way.

In addition to launching the device as Omnia in Italy, Samsung also promotes it with a special launch event of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. While this has been confirmed, it seems that the fact that the mobile phone will go to the Netherlands as i8910 HD is also almost certain, which means that we cannot expect the device to come under the same name on the entire European market.

For what it's worth, Samsung has other devices named differently in several markets already, such as the Anycall brand its handsets bear in Asia, or the “Player” brand in France, “Tocco” in U.K. and “Touch” in the rest of the European countries, which means that the same will most likely happen to Omnia HD.

The fact that the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD will lose a part of its name in some markets comes as a result of the company’s intention to avoid confusion between this device and the original Omnia phone, which came around with Windows Mobile. At the same time, this might as well be only a marketing move, as Samsung is working its way up towards becoming the leading mobile phone maker in Europe, so it allows bigger local offices to decide which name the device should have in the area.

The 8-megapixel camera phone will come with a 3.7-inch display that can provide a 360 x 640 pixel resolution, 8 or 16GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi capabilities, 3G support, and much more, regardless of the name it will bear. At the same time, the company is also known to be planning on launching different versions of the handset with different operating systems, and an Android-powered Omnia HD might come to the market soon.
