The device will go only by its model name

According to the latest news on the Web, the popular Samsung OmniaHD will no longer be known under this name, but simply as Samsung i8910. This is not exactly a change in name, one would argue, given the fact that this would be its model number, yet the handset will lose the OmniaHD moniker from now on.

It seems that the change was driven by the fact that the Korean mobile phone maker Samsung intends to avoid any possible confusions between the original Omnia handset, which was powered by the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system, and the OmniaHD, which came to the market sporting the Symbian platform. As a result, from now on the handset will be referred to only with the model number it bears.

For what it's worth, it seems that the name of the device is the only thing that has been changed for now. Those who would like to purchase the Samsung i8910 mobile phone will still receive the 3.7-inch QHD AMOLED touchscreen display, as well as the 8-megapixel photo snapper with HD video recording capabilities and 3G (HSPA) data connection packed inside a sleek body. Although the Samsung OmniaHD name sounds much more impressive than Samsung i8910, we should get used to calling it by its model name from now on.

On the other hand, other changes in the handset's name might surface in the near future, mainly due to the fact that Samsung was reported not too long ago to plan on adding more operating systems into the equation. To be more precise, we should be able to see, at a certain point in the future, a variant of the Samsung i8910 available on the market featuring Google's Android platform, while other versions sporting different OSes could be spotted as well. Stay tuned to learn more details as they become available.
