PC maker Samsung decided it was time for an update to its laptop product portfolio, especially with IFA 2011 just a couple of days away, so it launched the Series 7 line of very thin laptops.

Samsung has been showing up in the news for a variety of reasons lately, not all of them happy ones, as was the case with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 getting banned and/or delayed.

Things are considerably better on the PC front, with even rumors that Samsung would buy HP's PC business (this was debunked by the company itself).

Speaking of the PC market, it is this very field that the outfit decided to act on through its latest press release.

More specifically, it created the Series 7 laptop line, composed of thin, powerful models based on the Intel Core i7 Processor 2675QM (2.20 GHz, 6 MB L3 cache).

6 GB or 8 GB of DDR3 are backing said chip, along with discrete graphics from Advanced Micro Devices (Radeon HD 6750M or 6490M).

Additionally, the 15.6-inch or 14-inch notebooks have LCDs with a resolution of 1,600 x 900 pixels, plus HDDs with capacities of 750 GB each.

Other specifications include 1.3 megapixel HD webcams, WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, 3W stereo speakers and battery life of up to 9 hours.

“The Series 7 is an ideal laptop for discerning users who need to be highly productive everywhere they go, with advanced features such as Samsung’s exclusive Fast Start technology, a high-speed processor and a large, matte screen that is visible anywhere, even outside,” said Scott Ledterman, director of mobile PC marketing at Samsung Enterprise Business Division.

“Our goal is to create notebooks that constantly inspire and enrich customers’ lives and with the Series 7, one of the thinnest quad core PCs to date, cutting edge consumers and business users can capitalize on Samsung’s advanced engineering, inside and out.”

With starting prices of $999.99 to $1,149, the Samsung Series 7 should start shipping on October 2, 2011.
