The fact that Samsung is working on some pretty impressive AMOLED display prototypes doesn't come as a huge surprise to anyone, especially if you have been keeping a close eye on Softpedia since we reported on quite a few of these prototypes before, but one can't help but being completely blown away when taking a look at Samsung's FPD 2010 stand as it comes packed full of awesomeness.

Taking place right now in Japan, FPD is an important opportunity for display manufacturers to showcase their latest products and innovations, Samsung being particularly keen on not missing this chance, all their latest foldable AMOLED prototypes making it to this fair, together with a bunch of other cool solutions.

Bet let's dive right in and see what does Samsung has in store for us in the not so distant future, starting with their new 5.3 inch foldable displays, probably the most impressive prototypes showcased by the Korean giant, that feature an impressive 960x800 resolution, 26.2M color depth and 100,000:1 contrast ratio.

Add to that a color gamut superior to 100% of the NTSC Color space and you know that if this makes it into retail then it will most certainly best anything that came before it.

Moving on, almost as equally impressive are the 2.8 inch, WQVGA resolution Samsung flexible displays, that offer 16.7M color depth, 250 cd/m2 brightness together with that impressive color gamut and contrast ratio available in the previous display.

Apart from these two, transparent displays were also a hot topic for Samsung as the company showcased a 960x540 resolution AMOLED panel that should one day make it to laptops, although packing a higher resolution I suppose.

Other prototypes included an almost indestructible (according to Samsung) ultra-slim plastic display that featured a 1024×600 resolution and 1,000:1 contrast ratio, a Virtual Holographic LCD, as well as the 70” 240Hz UD 3D TV we previously reported on and some 3D glassless phones (deemed not so impressive by Akihabaranews).

End of it all, I will let you watch a short video showcasing some of Samsung's most impressive displays, leaving you to dream about the day when these will make it to a gadget near you.
