With all the display prototypes that seem to be popping around just about everywhere nowadays, it's pretty hard to imagine how the future will look like, but Samsung sends as a few hints our way as the company is getting ready to commercialize a rolled up OLED TV in 2013 or 2014.

This latest announcement came from Kim Seong Cheol, Samsung Mobile Display's Senior Manager, during an interview with a Korean Daily News reporter.

To back up his claims, Kim Seong Cheol referred to the 0.2mm thick flexible OLED display that he showcased during the Flat Panel Display Technology Show (FPD2010) that took place just a month ago in Japan, claiming that using present day technology Samsung can produce even a 0.1mm thick screen.

As a result of these latest developments in OLED display technology, Mr. Cheol believes that as long as everything works out as expected, the very first TVs to make use of such a screen will be available for retail in the 2013, 2014 timeframe.

Apart from the flexible TV screen, OLED-display website also states the company is working on developing a digital OLED newspaper that is controlled via a touchscreen which allows users to surf through all the content available, this impressive device being expected to hit the streets sometime in 2015.

When it comes down to OLED display manufacturing, Samsung is one of the most important companies involved, the Korean manufacturer spending 1.5 trillion won this year for expanding their production line and plans to invest even more next year.

A part of the funds allocated to the OLED display business have been used for preparing a new AMOLED production line that is expected to go live in May 2011 and should be able to manufacture up to 30 million small-sized AMOLED panels a month compared with the 3 million panels the company now builds per month.
