While, for the time being, OLED displays are still mostly bound to mobile devices, things might actually change quite a lot on the future, especially if Korean company Samsung manages to bring to the market one of the latest concepts it has showcased, namely a large-size, folding OLED panel providing 3D support.

As OLED-display.net reports, it seems that Samsung, which is, after all, one of the top names in the display solutions market (and the world's top TV manufacturer for 19 quarters straight), has showcased at FPD International 2010 a foldable 3D OLED HDTV concept, which will manage to provide TVs with a never-before encountered level of portability.

Plus, the fact that it's foldable will also enable users to enjoy 3D content from just about anywhere around the room, not just right in front of the TV, at a specific distance, as is the case nowadays.

Unfortunately, for the time being, we're only talking about a concept here, but one that actually manages to paint a pretty interesting picture of what we should expect from the future of television in general and of display solutions in particular.

So, beside of the fact that a foldable 3D OLED HDTV will be extremely easy to carry around just about anywhere the user might go, it will also enable the appearance of some extremely cool display setups.

After all, a whole room filled with such displays would enable a completely immersive experience, the Star Trek holodeck suddenly becoming a lot less science fiction.

Of course, only time will tell whether this concept from Samsung will actually lead to the development of certain real, market-ready products.

However, market estimates seem to indicate that such a product might become true in 5 to 10 years' time, which is actually a very promising time frame, all things considered.
