Having an Android tablet launched on the market seems to be the latest trend among manufacturers, and Samsung does not plan on being left behind. Hot on the heels of an official confirmation of Dell's 5-inch Android-based Streak Tablet comes another such device, the Samsung Galaxy Tape, previously spotted around the Internet as the Tab or S-Tab.

According to the latest reports around the Internet, the new tablet should boast a 7-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, while running under Google's Android 2.2 (Froyo) mobile operating system. Moreover, Vietnamese site Tinh te (via Engadget) says that a reliable source unveiled the fact that the upcoming slate would be powered by an A8 processor clocked in at 1.2GHz.

In case the large display on this device might not seem that impressive, one should take a look at the rest of its rumored specifications. A 4,000 mAh battery is what keeps the behemoth alive, while users can store a nice range of files on the 16GB of internal memory available. In case that does not fit one's needs, a microSD memory card slot enables the addition of more storage space into the equation, with support for cards of up to 32GB.

The Samsung Galaxy Tape tablet, in case this will prove to be its market name in the end, is said to weigh in at 370 grams. The South Korean mobile phone maker also chose to load its TouchWiz user interface on top of the Android 2.2 platform, rumor has it, and it should be quite interesting to see how it presents itself on the tablet's large display.

The photo available with Samsung Galaxy Tape shows the device next to the 4-inch Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, offering the possibility to make an idea of what it should look like when launched on the market, something that might happen in August, it seems. According to the news, it should be only the first such tablet Samsung has in plan for the ongoing year, as it should be followed by 8-inch and 10-inch devices in the fourth quarter of 2010.
