14 DAY TRIAL // Computer maker Dell announced today that it planned on making its 5-inch Android-based Streak Tablet available for purchase in the UK in early June via wireless carrier O2. The device is expected to be put on sale via all O2 stores, as well as on the carrier's website and at The Carphone Warehouse, while being set to hit Dell.co.uk later that month. According to the company, the tablet is expected to hit the US market later during the summer.
The pricing for Dell Streak hasn't been unveiled so far, yet O2 should come up with details on the matter close to the launch date. “The Dell Streak hits the sweet spot between traditional smartphones and larger-screen tablets,” Ron Garriques, president, Dell Communication Solutions Group commented on the launch. “Its unique size provides people new ways to enjoy, connect, and navigate their lives.”
The device comes to the market with a compact design, while including a nice range of powerful connectivity features, offering users the possibility to stay in touch with their friends and family at all times. The 5-inch screen proves a great option when it comes to enjoying Android Market applications, widgets and games. Moreover, users will be able to take full advantage of the included Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity options for downloading and listening to music, accessing social media sites, sending emails, or enjoying text, IM, and voice calls.
Dell Streak offers support for over-the-air updates, as well as for Adobe Flash 10.1 on Android 2.2 (which should arrive later this year), video chat applications and more. The specifications list of the device also includes a 5-megapixel photo snapper, a VGA front facing camera, 2GB of internal memory, microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, a 1GHz processor, integrated Google Maps, and integrated social media apps, including Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
“On-the-go students, mobile professionals, and active families will find Streak’s web-browsing capabilities as natural as a laptop. The 5-inch screen is large enough to present Web pages in their natural form, create a comfortable viewing experience, and make turn-by-turn navigation simple and safe.
