Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000, the Android-based tablet PC that Samsung Electronics announced officially last month and started pushing to shelves in October, is about to get a brother, which has just received the necessary FCC approvals, namely the Samsung Galaxy Tab

GT-P1010.

The two devices would be identical up to a point, as the new version comes only with Wi-Fi capabilities on board, without the support for 3G networks present on the GT-P1000 model.

We already knew that such a Galaxy Tab version would be on its way to the market in the near future, but nothing was known for sure until now.

The same as previously rumored, the GT-P1010 tablet PC loses the 3G chipset present on the already unveiled device, but comes with all the other specs included inside it.

Among these, we can count WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, as well as the 7-inch touchscreen display, not to mention the 1GHz application processor, or the 3MP rear camera and the 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

According to a recent article on SlashGear, the new model should become available for purchase at about the same time as the 3G-enabled flavor, but nothing if official on the matter for the time being.

However, a previous leaked document from Best Buy showed that we might expect for the Wi-Fi-only Galaxy Tab to land on shelves in the near future, while sporting a price tag of $499.99 when available.

Undoubtedly, the new version of the device would be cheaper than the 3G-capable model, but it won't be significantly cheaper, at least when compared to the Apple iPad, which sports a larger touchscreen display.

All in all, it should not be too long before more info on the matter becomes available, especially since the slate already passed through FCC.

Not to mention that the Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 was already announced as being on its way to various wireless carriers in the United States in about two weeks, while UK users would have the opportunity to purchase it starting with Monday, November 1st.
