O2 is the latest wireless carrier in the UK to confirm the upcoming availability of Samsung's new flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S II, on its airwaves.

The smartphone will become available for purchase in the UK on May 1st, Samsung announced a while ago, and should hit all major wireless carriers in the country, namely Orange, T-Mobile, Three and Vodafone, and now O2.

The mobile phone was unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, when Samsung announced that it would pack a dual-core application processor, but its market launch was pushed back a little.

Last week, Samsung confirmed the reason for this delay, the boosting of handset's processor speed from 1GHz to 1.2GHz, which is adding some extra performance into the mix.

Some of the main features of the new device would include:

- Get clearer, richer more colorful imagery with the World’s First 4.27" WVGA Screen - Capture those special moments with the 8 Megapixel camera with LED flash on this phone. With a front facing camera, you can video call your friends near and far - Take entertainment with you, choose from 100s of films from Samsung movies, catch up on TV with BBC player, or use the readers hub to choose from thousands of books, magazines and newspapers

The specifications list of the new device shows a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, the said fast processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

“The Samsung Galaxy S II, incredibly thin but also amazingly powerful,” wireless carrier O2 UK notes on the coming soon page it put up on its website.

“Experience super fast, ultra responsive gaming, or record and watch crystal clear movies in full HD whilst running all of your favorite apps. You’ll enjoy it all on the most colorful and captivating Samsung Super AMOLED plus Screen.” The mobile phone would also come with enhanced connectivity capabilities, as well as with support for various Google Mobile Services, and for applications available for download via the Android Market.
